Reid Hospital & Health Care Services, Inc., also known as Reid Health, in Richmond, Indiana, has made the decision to settle the class action lawsuit linked to the claimed usage of Meta Pixel and other tracking codes on its website.
Based on the Jane Doe v. Reid Health litigation, registered in Wayne County Superior Court, Indiana, Reid Health, a HIPAA-covered entity, inadvertently exposed patients’ protected health information (PHI) to third-party systems without the patients’ awareness or authorization. Metal Pixel and other tracking systems can get details regarding users’ actions on a webpage where the tracking codes are set up. That information could be associated with persons through their IP address, and whenever they sign into accounts during the visit. The tracking solutions can get data, such as the web pages visited, lookups completed on the website, and details picked in drop-down menus. That info can show sensitive data concerning individuals and might be employed by third parties to offer them targeted adverts.
As per the lawsuit, employing these tools without notifying website users means negligence. The lawsuit likewise mentioned claims of negligence per se, breach of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment, breach of privacy, and a violation of the Indiana Deceptive Consumer Sales Act. Reid Health strongly rejects the exposure of any personally identifiable information (PII) to Meta or other third parties without authorization and maintains that no wrongdoing was done. Reid Health argues that it committed, or threatened, or tried to do any wrongful act or breach of any legislation. Reid Health thinks that if the litigation were to go on to summary judgment or trial, it will win; nevertheless, after contemplating the cost, risks, and uncertainty common in any lawsuit, Reid Health decided to resolve the lawsuit.
After negotiation, all parties decided on a settlement that offers financial relief and enrollment in a medical shield item. Class members can send a claim for a cash payment of $25 and will immediately obtain a code to sign up for the medical shield product, which defends against improper use of the class members’ personal data. Notices regarding the settlement deal were sent by mail on September 25, 2025, and class members can object to or be exempted from the settlement deal. Cash payment claims and enrollment in the Medical Shield membership are available until December 24, 2025. The final fairness hearing is scheduled on December 9, 2025.
